What I enjoyed most was meeting Helen for the first time and walking away with a 10 week programme that was realistic and achievable. It totally changes your mindset and re-educates you. It fed my thirst for knowledge and empowered me.
Helen came to see me as she had a big birthday coming up and wanted physical and mental wellbeing. She knew she was eating erratically and eating too much but needed direction and motivation to make changes. She had a very busy work life that involved travelling around the UK and overseas. She had suffered from a number of injuries and arthritic pain, she used to have a very active lifestyle, cycling and taking part in triathlons. She was looking for her next challenge!

Would you mind sharing the reasons (health issues/goals) that you came to see Helen.
I had a big birthday coming up! I work in a food-rich environment and while I used to exercise a lot, this hadn’t been possible recently. I needed to learn how to make the right food choices for my current situation.
And can you share the approach that Helen took?
Helen took a thorough look at what I was eating and totally changed my mind about calorie-counting. She gave me a mind-set change from any previous diet I had been on. I had always been very fit and that had been my yardstick, but after injury I was unable to exercise, so my challenge was to adjust my eating accordingly. Helen gave me options for a better approach.
What are the main/key things that you learnt?
To have realistic, day to day, goals that suit my environment. It really changed my attitude to juices and consumption of fruit. I now drink water at breakfast instead of juices. I also challenged myself to reduce my wheat and dairy intake to suit my life pattern. Whilst I can’t do the physical challenges anymore, this was a new challenge.
Did anything surprise you?
That my fruit intake had such a high sugar content! I had always counted calories but now I understood that the quality of what I was eating was more important.
What changes to your health have you experienced?
I feel so much better, almost to the point of feeling smug! I have a fantastic sense of wellbeing. Since signing off, I miss Helen’s regular contact and motivation.
What are the changes that you have continued to make?
No juice! And not too much fruit, instead I eat far more veg.
How did you find the experience?
Initially it was hard – Helen made it clear that I had to plan ahead and that wasn’t optional. But it was worth every penny! I had a clear 10 week plan to get to my goal and that was just what I needed. I really enjoyed the one-to-ones and that very focused, dedicated time. It was all completely energising.

Don’t hesitate! If you have some openness, Helen will be very successful with you. So many people said to me “you’re really looking well!” and I was pleased to say “I’ve had a 10 week programme with a nutritionist. I should have done it ages ago!” I just feel so WELL.
